  1. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  3. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
  4. buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are
  5. expected to register. Individual programs differ on details -- some
  6. request registration while others require it, some specify a maximum
  7. trial period. With registration, you get anything from the simple right
  8. to continue using the software to an updated program with printed
  9. manual.

  11. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
  12. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as
  13. stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
  14. commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both
  15. cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in
  16. the method of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to
  17. copy and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  18. specific group. For example, some authors require written permission
  19. before a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  21. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
  22. find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
  23. commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs
  24. easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is
  25. low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back
  26. guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  30. Users of FastTimer Component for Delphi must accept this disclaimer of
  31. warranty: "FastTimer Component for Delphi is supplied as is.  The author
  32. disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, including, without
  33. limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any
  34. purpose. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or
  35. consequential, which may result from the use of FastTimer Component for
  36. Delphi."

  38. FastTimer Component for Delphi is a "shareware program" and is provided
  39. at no charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with
  40. your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  41. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to provide
  42. personal computer users with quality software without high prices, and
  43. yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue to develop new
  44. products.  If you find this program useful and find that you are using
  45. FastTimer Component for Delphi and continue to use FastTimer Component
  46. for Delphi after a reasonable trial period, you must make a registration
  47. payment to Eric Nielsen.  Registration fees are explained on the order
  48. form. The registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
  49. computer at any one time.  You must treat this software just like a
  50. book.  An example is that this software may be used by any number of
  51. people and may be freely moved from one computer location to another, so
  52. long as there is no possibility of it being used at one location while
  53. it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two
  54. different persons at the same time.  Certain portions of the FastTimer
  55. Component for Delphi may be redistributed royalty-free by registered
  56. users of the FastTimer Component for Delphi with products that use the
  57. Component. These portions include FASTTIME.DLL and any code linked from
  58. FASTTIME.DCU, and, in the case of source-code registered users, any code
  59. compiled and linked from the source-code whether original or modified.

  61. Commercial users of FastTimer Component for Delphi must register and pay
  62. for their copies of FastTimer Component for Delphi within 30 days of
  63. first use or their license is withdrawn.  See the order form for

  66. The evaluation version of FastTimer Component for Delphi may be
  67. distributed freely by shareware and CDROM vendors, and through online
  68. services such as BBS'es and other systems, provided that all the files
  69. listed below (and only the files listed below) are included as part of
  70. the FastTimer Component for Delphi package, and that they remain intact
  71. and unchanged. Please consider contacting Eric Nielsen at the address
  72. below so that you will the latest version.
